Across campus, the sorority sisters of Chi Omega, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta and Kappa Delta will be celebrating Panhellenic Week, which started on Wednesday and will run until April 22.
The Panhellenic Council at the University of New Hampshire is a student-run government between sorority chapters to improve leadership, academic and philanthropic opportunities on campus.  The week will be filled with unique, sorority-hosted events, Instagram contests and community gatherings.
“It’s a great way to bring all of Greek life together,” said Amanda ElMassih, a member of Alpha Phi.  “Everyday there are events and Instagram contests going on, and the winning chapter will receive money for their philanthropy.”
On Wednesday, Lauren Potter of Glee visited the Memorial Union Building to talk about bullying, her disability and how she has overcome related obstacles.  The Instagram contest for the day was Wear Your Letters.
Thursday’s event entitled “The Body Project,” will be held in the MUB room 156 from 6-7:30 p.m.  This organization talks about the extremely prominent pressures to be thin, and how body image in the media affects the public.  It also works towards being confident with outer body images.  Sisterhood Shoutout is the Instagram contest for the day.
As the month of April is also Sexual Awareness Month, SHARPP is hosting the Clothesline Project on Friday, April 17, which is a traveling exhibit put on by the AmeriCorps Victim Assistance Program.  This project is designed to spread awareness of violence against women, how it needs to be addressed, and stopped altogether.  Favorite Memory Friday is the Instagram contest of the day.
There will be no events this weekend, but the week will pick back up on Monday, April 20. Panhellenic Council vice president Julia Pramberg is looking forward to the Lemonade Standup Comedy night, which is from 8-9 p.m. in the MUB Theatre.
“Out executive board is most excited about next Monday’s comedy night,” Pramberg said.  “We recently adopted [Northeast] Passage as our philanthropic recipient, so we are co-hosting a comedy night with all of our proceeds going to them.”
With philanthropy as a huge factor of the Panhellenic Council, many students are looking forward to Monday’s event.
“There’s going to be lemonade, popcorn, and a lot of laughs,” Pramberg said.
Tuesday, April 21 is going to be filled with guided meditation in the MUB from 5-6 p.m. and Student Leadership at 6 p.m. in the Strafford Room.  The last day of Panhellenic Week 2015, April 22, and is going to finish off with a Greek Together Instagram contest and a “Cupcake Celebration” from 6-7:15 p.m. in MUB room 302.  Pramberg is also very excited for this last event.
“Panhellenic hopes that this will be a way to close out celebrating a week of uniting our community,” she said.
The council will award point for attendance of events and #unhpanhel tags on Instagram.  Aside from some friendly competition and donations to sorority philanthropies, Panhellenic Week is ultimately designed to involve Durham citizens and UNH students in events that will unify and benefit the community.
