Schools consider face-to-face instruction as COVID-19 cases decrease

President Joe Biden announced Tuesday, March 2, that the administration is striving to vaccinate grade K-12 teachers with their first coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines by the end of this March. He also declared that national vaccination levels are moving vastly ahead of schedule. The U.S. is on track to administer the first vaccine shot to every American adult by the end of May -- two months ahead of the previously stated goal.

University President James W. Dean announced this week that the University of New Hampshire (UNH) would return to in-person classes starting Wednesday, Feb. 24, while campus remains in orange mode “until further notice.”

[DURHAM]-- “Rest assured UNH Housing remains open,” Residential Life stated. This past Thursday UNH announced a transition to orange mode due to a rise of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases within the campus community. Effective Thursday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m., President James Dean sent an email to all faculty and students with an official statement. “We are seeing a dramatic and sustained rise in the number of positive COVID-19 cases within the Durham community. As a result, effective 6 p.m. today, Feb. 11, 2021, the Durham campus (Manchester and Law remain in yellow) will transition to our orange mode of operation.”

In the first week since the University of New Hampshire (UNH) transitioned to orange mode of operations, positive coronavirus (COVID-19) test numbers have dropped slightly, but remain at very high levels.
