Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed as the country’s next Supreme Court justice by a 52 to 48 vote margin in the United States Senate. Barrett was sworn in by Justice Clarence Thomas at the White House on Monday, Oct. 26—eight days before Election Day in the United States. This confirmation gives conservatives a 6-3 majority in the Supreme Court.
Before her confirmation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, Amy Coney Barrett worked as a professor at her alma mater, the University of Notre Dame School of Law, where she began teaching in 2002.
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away on Friday Sept. 18 from metastatic pancreatic cancer complications. Throughout her career she fought for the rights of women, the disabled, the LGBTQ community, and undocumented people.
