On Nov 5, the 2024 New Hampshire gubernatorial election will take place and decide the governor for the next two years. Leading the race by a three point margin, as of Oct 30, is Republican Kelly Ayotte.
Ayotte has voiced her support for former President and current Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump.
Ayotte received 63 percent of the votes in the primary elections, gaining victory over former State Senate President Chuck Morse, and solidifying her place as the Republican nominee.
Ayotte also received endorsement from current New Hampshire governor and Republican, Chris Sununu. This is a close election, especially because New Hampshire voters do not always vote blue or red.
Former State Representative and endorser Ross Berry of Manchester said, “She is center right, she isn’t all the way over. And I think that’s where the state is, it’s in a center-right place, not a far-right state. I think she’s gonna match up where the state is pretty well,” said former state representative Ross Berry
Ayotte has made her stances on various issues throughout her political career as she previously held office in the Senate for New Hampshire, as well as being the 27th Attorney General of New Hampshire.
Businessman and endorser Doug Palardy of New Castle said, “With her relationships with folks from D.C. while as U.S. Senator, she will be able to advocate for the state in bigger needs, such as funds for capital improvements on the Seacoast after the disastrous storm flooding we had the past two winters.”
One of the biggest issues that candidates Ayotte and Craig have been inputting into their campaigns has been the issue of women’s reproductive health.
Palardy said, “Unlike the false attacks on various media outlets, [Ayotte] will not change the state’s current abortion laws. Also, as a gay man, and former co-founder of the NH chapter of Log Cabin Republicans, I can assure you she is supportive of [LGBT rights] to marry and live equally in the state.”
Gail Huff Brown, former New Hampshire GOP congressional candidate and endorser said, “I have known Kelly for many years and my husband Scott Brown served with her in the US Senate. I know that we are aligned on many cultural and social issues as well. She will protect a woman’s right to have an abortion in NH as long as it’s within the first 24 weeks of pregnancy, or in the case of rape, incest, or health of the mother. This is important to me as the mother of two daughters and two granddaughters.”
Speaking on Ayotte’s stance on crime, Berry said, “She’s tough on crime. We’re the second safest state in the country and she will obviously continue down that path, versus we’ve seen the Democrats with these cashless bail systems that have really wreaked havoc on places like Manchester, Nashua, and Dover.”
Brown said, “In a society that is trending more and more away from law abidance it’s important to me that we elect a governor who will follow the law and hold those who don’t accountable.”
Ayotte continues to run a strong campaign as the 2024 gubernatorial election approaches, and her campaign trail comes to a close.
Businessman and endorser Micheal Kane of Portsmouth said, “She’s been out in the business world, she understands the way the world works and she’s committed to the state of New Hampshire. So I’m thrilled she’s running and I can’t wait to vote for her.”
