Wildcats swept by No. 18 Northeastern, fall to ninth place

·

University of New Hampshire (UNH) men’s hockey (5-12-2) and No. 18 Northeastern University (8-5-2) battled twice this past weekend. Wildcats shutout Northeastern in first game of 2021

·

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire (UNH) women’s soccer team kicked off their season with a 1-0 win over Northeastern (0-1) Sunday, Feb. 14. The game was the first fall sport to play this spring season following the delay of all fall sports due to COVID-19. The win was a comfortable one for the Wildcats despite the narrow score; the Huskies never looked like a real attacking threat.

Riverhawks handle Wildcats as season winds down

·

LOWELL, MASS. – University of New Hampshire (UNH) women's basketball (5-13,5-10) dropped both games of a two-game series against UMass Lowell (11-8, 10-6) over the weekend. The Wildcats, who have exceeded most expectations this season looked more like what their preseason projections looked like in this weekend series. Neither game was close, and head coach Kelsey Hogan showed some frustration with her teams' performance.

No. 14 UNH set to kickoff season in two weeks

·

DURHAM, N.H. – No. 14 University of New Hampshire (UNH) football is set to kick off their spring season in two weeks after having the fall slate postponed. The Wildcats will face a six-team schedule consisting of only Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) schools. After watching the departure of a handful of veteran defenders from 2019, head coach Sean McDonnell still thinks his defense can be a threat and will be supplemented by developing offensive talent.

Torres set to return as Wildcats’ leader for her fifth year

·

Amanda Torres is used to being the only player in her class. She arrived at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) in August 2017. The 5-foot-7 point guard out of Proctor Academy was the lone first-year athlete for the UNH women's basketball team. Four years later and Torres now helms the Wildcats as the sole senior.

Celtics increasingly inconsistent as midseason approaches

·

The Boston Celtics have lost five of their last nine games. Injuries seem to be lingering and their playstyle has been increasingly inconsistent. They have been relying on a couple of their top players to rack up the majority of baskets, yet, there have been games where that hasn't been enough to give them a win. Until Tuesday night's game against the Nuggets, the Celtics were .500 for the first time in six years at this point in the season. Many are asking if these factors are too much to cause the Celtics to start spiraling in the wrong direction.

Fatigue has appeared to set in for the Wildcats as they let game one slip away by a final of 74-69. The team was able to salvage the weekend, however, by pulling ahead late on Saturday afternoon to win 74-63.

Keys for Celtics success ahead of All-Star break

·

With just 13 games remaining before the NBA All-Star break, the Boston Celtics are still on track for a trip back to the playoffs. Although their play has been somewhat shaky lately, the Celtics still sit at the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. To maintain this secure spot in the standings, Boston has their work cut out for them given the current shape of their club.

Angus Crookshank tallies 50th point as Wildcat

·

During this challenging season for the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey, it’s been tough for them to string together wins without some of their leaders and top talent like junior forward Angus Crookshank.

·

DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire (UNH) women’s basketball (5-11, 5-8 AE) dominated the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) (4-13, 4-9 AE) on Sunday by a final of 76-67. Brady, the true architect of the “Patriot Way”

·

Tom Brady advanced to his 10th career Super Bowl last Sunday when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers went on the road to defeat Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game. Brady’s performance late in the season with a new team may be providing clarity to a question people have been asking themselves for years. This may also serve as a well-needed wake-up call to Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots – at least that’s what many may have thought.

Celtics to rely on bench depth in wake of Smart injury

·

The Boston Celtics lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in a nail biter that came down to the final seconds of regulation on Saturday night. Boston fell short by a final of 96-95 after missing a pair of game-winning shots. The team may have lost something worse than their eighth game on Saturday, however. Celtics point guard Marcus Smart jumped up to block Lakers forward Montrezl Harrell’s layup and landed awkwardly leading some to the assumption it could’ve been an Achilles tear similar to Kevin Durant in the 2019 NBA Finals. Luckily for the team, however, the injury doesn’t appear to be that serious.

UNH swept as they fail to contain the Providence offense

·

University of New Hampshire men’s hockey (3-10-2) lost in back-to-back games against the No. 17 Providence Friars (7-5-4) over the weekend. The Wildcats were looking to stay on the winning side of things after splitting with Merrimack, but they unfortunately couldn’t grab a point in either game.

Coach Mac addresses spring season at CAA Media Day

·

DURHAM, N.H. – Normally the annual Blue-White Game is the last action we see from University of New Hampshire football before the school year ends. This year, however, this is just the start of the action for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). CAA Media Day – which normally takes place in July – was held via Zoom last week as UNH and the rest of the league prepares for the first week of March.

Martinez notches fifth double-double in OT win

·

VESTAL, N.Y. – Much of the standing within the America East Conference remains up in the air as the season is about to hit its final stretch before the conference tournament. University of New Hampshire (UNH) men’s basketball (8-7, 7-5) had yet another opportunity to take a leap and solidify themselves in the top half of the America East. The Wildcats, however, failed to take care of business on a trip to the last place Binghamton Bearcats (2-13, 2-10).
