New Hampshire Hockey Column: Wildcats finding their identity on the defensive end

·

The season for the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Wildcats (7-7-1, 3-5-1) hasn’t come without its bumps. They lost senior captain Will MacKinnon just a few weeks into the season due to injury, had his senior defensive partner Ryan Verrier get hurt the next game which caused him to miss a month, and have not had a consistent starting goaltender all year; not to mention it’s only the very beginning of December. There have been other negatives as well like a struggling offense, and the variable of an ever-changing forward lineup. Yet the team sits at 7-7-1. While play at times hasn’t been great, especially in Hockey East matchups, I think that there was a step taken against No. 8 UMass two weeks ago and then again versus No. 16 Harvard and Holy Cross this past weekend that for the first time all year, the team can truly build off.

UNH women’s hockey: Wildcats still searching for their first win after tough weekend versus Providence and BU

·

PROVIDENCE R.I. -- Providence College (2-0, 2-0) hosted the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Wildcats (0-3-1, 0-3-1) Friday, and showed no mercy. Senior goaltender Ava Boutilier made 31 saves including five in the first period, 16 in the second and 10 in the third period. That was not enough to help the Wildcats come away with the victory as they were bested 3-1 by the Friars.

UNH men’s hockey: Wildcats backed by strong veteran presence in 2021-22

DURHAM, N.H. – The rays of the hot summer sun have subsided, the leaves on the trees have started to fade from green to red, and most importantly the puck is ready to drop in Durham. After a long 580-day period that saw the world as we know it flip upside-down a few times, fans will finally be back at the Whittemore Center on Friday night to cheer on the University of New Hampshire (UNH) men’s hockey team at their season opener against Union College.
