[3/10] Kappa Delta Sorority Teams Up With Local Girl Scouts to Sell Cookies at UNH

On Monday, March 10, staff and students of the University of New Hampshire (UNH) crowded around a table outside Holloway Commons to get their Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and/or Samoas and show their support to the Girl Scouts. UNH’s Kappa Delta Sorority teamed up with local Girl Scout Troop 61748 to sell the cookies. The troop sells the cookies to develop leadership skills, courage and confidence; using the profits they make to go on fun trips, and giving back to the organization, furthering the values of friendship and character building.

“We just do anything we can to help them out,” said a Kappa Delta member at the event, “Girl Scout cookies have been a big hit just because the University of New Hampshire has a lot of foot traffic, so when we get booths here it really brings a lot of people and gives them an opportunity to meet college students and make connections.”

Kappa Delta’s philanthropic efforts include support for Prevent Child Abuse America, and KD UNH specifically works with the New Hampshire Children’s Trust, donating 80% of their raised money to the local chapter, and the other 20% to the national level. They also collaborate with the Girl Scouts in the greater Durham area, helping support and guide them.

Kappa Delta stated that by assisting the Girl Scouts with their events, their members inspire the younger girls to earn badges and do what they love. “Making friends with the girls and seeing how happy it makes them to succeed with their goals is the most rewarding because this is a big thing for them,” a spokesperson from the sorority said.

Kappa Delta and the Girl Scouts had a successful turnout in cookie sales at UNH. The sorority has more fundraising events during the month of March, including selling Shamrock Shakes in order to raise money for PCAA to fundraise for a world where all children can grow up safely.
