Peter T. Paul school supports seacoast small business day

The patio area outside of the Peter T. Paul Business School was filled with displays of local businesses which students created to help with their marketing strategies last Thursday.
The Marketing and Advertising Club paired up with different local businesses and presented posters along with free giveaways in order to help promote the use of each businesses social media.
This event was also used as a competition, as professors judged each presentation and awarded a gift basket with items from each of the featured local businesses.
Among the businesses featured were the Redhook brewery, When Pigs Fly bakery and Summer Sessions Surf Shop.
Each table displayed a different business along with poster that included background information about what services are provided, along with information about how to find them on social media.
The event was organized by senior marketing major Brayden Rudert.
“It’s a creative way to solve a general marketing problem,” Rudert said.
Rudert also spoke of the amount of recognition these businesses will get with the amount of people leaving his or her email addresses, which will be added to the businesses’ email list.
“We’ve been working, for the most part, all year,” Rudert said. “I can’t complain.”
Ian Robinson paired with Summer Sessions Surf Shop, a local business out of Portsmouth.
“We are trying to get awareness out by displaying different products,” Robinson said.
Robinson’s table was filled with many different products that Summer Sessions Surf Shop offers along with substantial information about the Learn to Surf sessions they offer and a game of “cornhole” set up to entertain the viewers.
Loco Coco’s Tacos, a Mexican restaurant out of Kittery, Maine, had been paired up with Kevin Brown and his marketing team.
“There is a big target of kids here,” Brown said when asked about the benefit of putting on this event.
Brown and his team, along with many of the other businesses at the event, were trying to get their paired businesses popularity on social media. The poster included both the businesses’ website and Facebook URL.
Tim Curran, a business administration and marketing major, teamed up with When Pigs Fly bakery also from Kittery.
“We sat down with the owner to figure out the areas of improvement and found out they don’t market,” Curran said.
Curran and his team hope to increase the marketing presence of When Pigs Fly.
“We want to put them on other platforms like Facebook,” Curran said. “We ask people to like their Facebook page before taking one of the free samples.”
Rudert was very happy with how the event turned out as a whole, and said that although he will be graduating this year, he hopes that the event will continue and more local businesses will pair up with students in order for the businesses to get their name out on a college campus.
