Female student assaulted on Campus last weekend

By Melissa Proulx, Staff Writer
A female student was reportedly attacked on the path between Hubbard and Christensen Hall this past weekend, according to a campus alert sent out by the Executive Director of Safety and UNH Police Chief Paul Dean late Monday night.
“In the early morning hours of Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, a male in a dark hooded sweatshirt grabbed a female student by the waist, the female broke away and the male grabbed her again,” Dean wrote in the alert. “The female yelled for help and when people in the area started coming over the male fled.”
The alert did not say at what time the incident occurred or if she was alone when it happened. The alert did not say if the department had any leads or suspects in the investigation.
According to Dean in a separate email conversation, the lack of information is due to the fact that report was filed earlier this evening and police are “in the very early stages” of their investigation.

As a result of the incident, university police officers and campus service officers will be increasing their patrols of the areas and will be available to escort anyone around campus if they have any safety concerns, according to the alert.
Dean said that the department has no further information about the case at this time, but encourages anyone with any information to call immediately.
“The University of New Hampshire Police Department reminds everyone to call 911 immediately if you see or hear anything suspicious,” the alert read. “Please do not wait to report suspicious activity to your friends or Resident Life Staff.”
Anyone with any information about the incident that night should call the department at 603-862-1427. Information or tips can also be submitted on the department’s website (www.unh.edu/upd/anonymous-reporting) or through the LiveSafe app available for free download in the iTunes and Google Plus app stores.
