Take a moment to walk back through the past academic year at UNH with TNH as your guide. The time has come to cross our fingers and kick our seniors into the outside world, but in August 2014 we were ushering in the class of 2018 with a fanfare—marching bands and a circus of Wildcat mascots and painted blue and white faces.
As the senate race roared across America, we welcomed home former dean of the business school Dan Innis, who lost the primary for congressman of the First District in the New Hampshire Republican Primary. But the senate race was not finished with UNH, as US Senate candidate Scott Brown tailgated with us at Homecoming, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen held a rally in Huddleston Hall and Carol Shea-Porter visited the MUB. Vermont’s Sen. Bernie Sanders made a visit as well.
We got ‘Stoopid’ with a throwback concert from SCOPE, before wrapping up our classes of fall 2014 and skating into the luxurious winter break. That winter vacation was determined to keep us out of the classrooms. The brutal nor’easter Juno buried the East Coast in snow and cancelled operations at UNH. It was the start to a winter that would snow enough to cancel operations five times.
When the Patriots defeated the Seahawks in Super Bowl 49, the UNH community honored requests from UNH President Mark Huddleston to celebrate responsibly.
Huddleston’s February State of the University address focused on growth, despite low funding from the state of New Hampshire.
In February we bade farewell to Provost Lisa McFarlane, who will become the principal of Phillips Exeter Academy in the fall. We elected Cameron Cook as the UNH student body president with Ryan Grogan as his vice president in March.
UNH Basketball had a historic season and made an exciting run towards getting an automatic qualifying bid.
Ben Cohen (he’s the Ben in Ben & Jerry’s ice cream) came to the Granite State Room to speak out against private spending in political life. Vermin Supreme joined the event as well.
It was announced that Ryan Pitts, former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient would deliver the commencement speech.
The rapper Logic delivered a fiery performance in the Field House in April. The sliced halves of a blue ribbon fluttered down on the new Watkins Student-Athlete Center, one of the additions and renovations to UNH that will include an upcoming overhaul of Holloway Commons, and improvements to Hamilton Smith.
Relay for Life raised over $75,000 for the American Cancer Society in April.
Despite the long winter and spring that never seemed to come, Cinco de Mayo was relatively tame compared to years in the past.

We thank you for your loyal readership, and are both proud and humbled to have finished another year as the student voice.
